Description
1. Automatic anti-glare (main function)
Working principle: The lens adopts the "electrochromic" technology. It is monitored by a photosensitive sensor for the light intensity of the vehicles behind. When strong light (such as the high beams of the vehicle behind) is detected, a weak current is applied to the special material inside the lens to darken its color (usually blue-green or dark blue), thereby significantly reflecting and absorbing the strong light and preventing it from directly shining into the driver's eyes.
Trigger method: It is usually linked with the interior rearview mirror inside the vehicle. When the sensor of the interior rearview mirror also detects strong light from behind, the anti-glare function of both the interior and exterior rearview mirrors will be activated simultaneously.
Advantages
Enhance night driving safety: Significantly reduce the glare caused by the high beams of vehicles behind, alleviate visual fatigue, and enable drivers to observe the road conditions on the sides and behind more clearly.
Automatic intelligence: Fully automatic control throughout the process, no manual operation by the driver is required.
2. Excellent optical performance
True image: As an original factory accessory, its glass material and curvature have been precisely designed to provide distortion-free and deformed true images, ensuring that drivers can accurately judge the distance.
Blue coating: Many anti-glare lenses have a light blue anti-glare coating on their surface, which can gently reflect light to a certain extent even when the anti-glare function is not activated during the day.
3. Heating defogging and defrosting function
This type of lens usually integrates a heating wire (on the back of the lens).
Function: In cold or damp weather, it can be activated by pressing the rearview mirror heating button inside the vehicle (usually linked to the rear window heating key) to heat the mirrors and remove frost, fog and water droplets, keeping the mirror surface clear.
4. Appearance and Logo
Mercedes-benz Logo: The edge or surface of the lens is usually etched with the three-pointed star logo of Mercedes-Benz.
Safety Warning: The English warning: "OBJECTS IN MIRROR ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR" will be printed on the lower part or edge of the lens. This is the standard safety warning for convex mirror design.
Blind spot assist indicator light (may not be applicable) : Please note that the basic part number A1668100319 usually does not include a blind spot assist indicator light. If your vehicle is equipped with a blind spot monitoring system, the indicator lights are integrated into the lenses, and the corresponding part numbers will be different (for example, the last digit or letter may change).
Iii. Materials and Structures
As we discussed before, this is a multi-layer composite structure:
Substrate: Tempered glass, providing strength and safety.
Reflective layer: Metal coating (such as silver, aluminum), used for reflecting images.
Electrochromic layer: gel/compound layer, is the core for achieving anti-glare function.
Conductive layer: ITO (indium tin oxide) thin film, used to apply a uniform electric field.
Protective layer: Edge sealant to prevent internal materials from getting damp and oxidized.
